As would I. I'm classified essential and working and still getting a pay check. I won't qualify for this anyway but If I did and I didn't need it I'd find a way to give it to someone doing something for people that are really in trouble right now. I hate seeing people selling the things they love just to feed their families. Carry on.

Received ours yesterday, direct deposit. I'm still working and thankfully we don't need the money. So we spent yesterday spreading it around our neighborhood to public library, food bank, homeless shelter, church, coffee shop, favorite restaurants, unemployed friends in the food industry, etc. It was a fun day and we got our money's worth spreading the joy.

    Well said.

I am still working, don't expect to get any $ at all from this. If we do, it is going straight to the local food bank that we support. There are too many people around here without adequate food in the best of times; now is even worse.

Mine might go toward the servicing of a 1901 Chelsea “Lighthouse Service” clock that came off a boat my Dad had when I was a kid. Or a new printer. The check won’t stimulate my account enough for the mandolin of my desire.

I just filled out a survey asking about the financial impact of the quarantine for musicians / gig workers. It was from an Arts Advocacy organization in Minnesota. They are giving grants out as fast as they can and getting information to influence policy makers to not forget people who do not have a steady income.
I just gave a pretty big check to the local food bank / homeless shelter, and I'm still trying to figure out how to help my band mates who have zero income right now.

If I find a government check in my account it is going to my band mates!

Wednesday the 15th we got ours, as did at least two other families we know. All by direct deposit. I won't be buying a mandolin. We just bought a whole house generator for when things really get bad.

These were sent out to anyone working or not working. For most it was based on their 2018 or 2019 tax returns. 1200, for single filers up to 75000 AGI. After that it phased out up to 99,000 AGI. Double those numbers for married filing jointly. 2400/ 150K/198K. People that did not file tax returns, such as those with no income outside of SS got the same. People with children under 17 got another 500 per child. Had nothing to do with being employed or unemployed. That will be the unemployment insurance which should have 600 per week Federal money added to whatever the recipient gets from the state. Anyone with a Direct Deposit on file from either a tax return or Social Security gets it sent right to their bank. Others will have it mailed.

Good question. By "filing" do you mean you sent them an account number for a direct deposit? In our case they fired those first deposits off an April 10 or 11 and we got ours 0n the 15th.

Yes. They do direct deposit. If you got a refund by direct deposit or you have a Social Security check by direct deposit, you will get it that way. Or on the IRS web site there is a link where you can give them your direct deposit info if you have certain info about your latest return.

We'll hang onto ours until we see how things go with our daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. Daughter does dental hygiene and those offices are closed. My son-in-law's hours are cut at the Honda dealer where he does wholesale parts sales. We'll keep an eye on their finances to see if they need any help.

No money yet, I am essential so still working, but I don't make much money so should qualify anyway. My vehicle has started making a new noise, so if I get a check I know where it will be going....

Still waiting here, but the checks were only supposed to start going out today. That's how we'll be getting ours, as we've always paid taxes through snail mail.

I've been e-mailing with Dennis at The Mandolin Store since the physical store is closed for the pandemic. Apparently, the last couple of weeks for him have been HUGE with online orders. He's had over 100 orders in the last couple of weeks. He said he had 26 yesterday alone. Viva Stimulus!

Can't speak for all musical instruments but *some* mandolin sales are continuing in a brisk manner in spite of what's going on. In particular, those in the more affordable range are flying off the shelves in several places we're in contact with. So much so that I think should this continue we'll see Eastman and Kentucky models more difficult to find in large numbers. It's a supply and demand situation. More demand and the supply end is not holding up its bargain. Not many instruments are going to get built for a few months and even when they do, the production is going to be slow to return. I'm hoping to find out more about this in the words of retail store owners and builders if this feature interview with them--similar to the one with artists published today--unfolds as we're shooting for. I suppose it's kind of like animal shelters at the moment. Due to high adoption demand many of them find themselves empty for the first time. Not saying that is going to happen to musical instruments but more of them in the hands of people, I always think that's a good idea.

I probably shouldn't speak for Dennis but I don't think he'd dispute this: he's worried he's going to run out of inventory in the future should this continue. I told him there are problems worse than that. I'll let him have the final say in that next week as he's one of the people we've asked for feedback.

And those of us who just happen to be in the market for an upgrade now suffer the fate of the pandemic hoarding. That's gotta hurt the smaller shops in the long run, because when it comes time for stock to be replenished, you're going to see new stock hit the Guitar Centers and the Sweetwaters and the mass merchandisers first I'm afraid.

I wonder whether the new flux of entry to mid mandolins will end up with the same fate as the toilet paper and sanitizer of last month; once people realize what it is they've actually done, if they'll start looking to return their purchases for money back. On one hand, a saturated used-starter market is still probably a good thing for people who are looking to/serious about starting... but, also, likely to boost those same mass-merchandisers who can afford to do trade/pawnshop type deals...

I rejoice for every person who finds the mossy overgrown path that leads to the purchase of a mandolin.
