he does incredible work.
Skill, patience and a great love for what he is doing. Quite inspiring video.
I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order. - Eric Morecambe

The finish on my Ellis A was a masterpiece - starting with selection of wood and a finish that really brought out the 3-D figure on the back and sides. This video emphasizes the master craftsmanship that is required to make perfection.
Just what I needed to see today. I love the inlay on that headstock by the way. That's one of the prettiest I've seen, even from Tom Ellis.
Video, itself, is masterfully done. Very polished high end product

I'm with John here. This video shows why high-end mandolins deserve the prices asked. It is a painstaking process to build our little arch-top friends and this shows just one (but super important) part of the building process. It must take amazing patience to do this kind of finish work. You can't just throw in the towel and say, well... good enough on this one. Doesn't work. My hat is off to to everyone in the Ellis shop...
Glassweb - it also illustrates why I would rather admire and play those mandolins than try to make one!
Amazing!
Having done all that I'm most amazed by the production company.
When I had the privilege to meet Tom a few years ago one of the first things I mentioned to him was how crazy the concept of letting somebody else finish your instrument was to me. He laughed . Super friendly guy. Josh does first class work for sure, but again, I don't think I could ever bring an instrument from a pile of wood to 99% done, then turn it over to somebody else. Before you all start hootin and hollerin I GET IT.....I understand totally why a lot of luthiers do this. Heck I know one very well known arch-top builder who farms out his headstocks, fingerboards, pickguards, and tailpieces to somebody else, and in all the years I've known about it, he's never once mentioned the guys name .... To me that's B.S. But finish work is different as I understand a lot of folks pass on it for health concerns which is totally and understandably acceptable.
