    Default Yair Stern Octave Mandolins

I have been having the best time working with Yair on a new Octave. His work is beautiful and from the videos - they sound great as well.

These are the two I am choosing between: https://youtu.be/zIBuEidEks0

A pity that the video isn’t available anymore… was this on purpose? Did you choose an OM in the end? And how do you like it?

In my opinion the second video shows off the tone qualities
    of the instrument better.

At the end you get the 6 YouTube suggestions. The one in
the lower right looks similar. It is labeled mandola. I tried that.
This is a great demo. It says Demo by Alanna Jenish. If you
follow each suggestion after that you get a mini concert by the
same musician. Give it a listen.

    Thanks,

Thanks, guys, very kind of you! I found those videos, posted Yair Stern himself, which are all played by the same (fantastic!) artist. And I also found Russ Rentler‘s video for selling his Stern OM. I was wondering about Rashi63‘s comparison and decision. So I just sent him a PM and also got his answer already.
And I suppose you will see and hear the outcome of my decision-making process in a short while…

So after a much shorter waiting time I could ever have expected (less than four weeks), here it is: my new Octave Mandolin built by Yair Stern from Canada http://ystern.ca.

Lovely little instrument, with a quite idiosyncretic design, I‘d say. It has a really full and warm sound.
    Sound example will follow!

    Some details:
    - cedar top
    - maple body and neck
    - walnut binding and headstock inlay
    - rosewood fretboard (12“ radius, maple inlay), bridge and arm-rest
    - scale 19“5/8 (500mm)
    - nut 36mm (1“27/64)
    - body depth 80mm (3“5/32)
    - rubbed shellac finish
    - Grover tuners 1:18

I had an interesting bit of correspondence with Yair recently, as I am looking for a new mandola, and an Ontario builder would be very convenient. He immediately warned me that I could order a new instrument from him with whatever features I desired, but I should be prepared to wait, “four or five weeks”.
My reply: “WEEKS? Is that a typo?”
Yair: “Some people consider that a long time to wait.”

So finally a first recording with my Stern OM. I love the size of the body as well as the shorter scale. Plays and sounds wonderfully. Hope the video could catch it somehow!
