From context I’m guessing it means Mandolin Acquisition Syndrome. If so, I am definitely suffering from it! Been playing for hardly any time and already want more.

The first rule of MAS is to never mention M@%....
Somebody will eventually ask how many mandolins you need to which the standard answer is “one more than I already have”.
Many people here suffer from this syndrome. In advanced cases, sufferers have been known to temporarily stop buying mandolins and start building them. Even in these advanced cases many relapse into buying more. At one time it was thought that buying a banjo was an effective preventative but that has, very sadly, been proven ineffective.
Not having reached a double digit count, I don’t believe I have the syndrome.. But read the current thread on MAS for an understanding as to how deep the affliction can run.

If you saw all my stringed instruments you'd know I have some type of IAS. But no MAS, currently. I've got my go-to Cricketfiddle F5, Morris hybrid F4, old Stahl banjolin, old Regal resonator mandolin, Cricketfiddle A4 10 string mandola, Cricketfiddle F4 octave mandolin, 10 string Cricketfiddle F4 mandocello and Epiphone Mandobird VIII. I still like trying out new instruments but currently don't feel like I need or even want anything new.
I have been very happy with the two mandolins I have but then the Kimble two points started getting posted. Gah! Really would love to play one.

MAS is not real . . . not real . . . not r
The way I see it is we have diseases and syndromes for pretty much everything nowadays so when will MAS be considered a medical condition! Hell Hoarding already is but at least with MAS a majority of us don't live in squalor and filth 4+ feet high in our houses and have to crawl or roll through filth to get to our favorite chair!!
While I don't live in squalor and filth, or crawl thru to get to my favorite chair, I do have to tip toe around all the instruments.
