    Default Acoustic Dead duo tunes

My good buddy Steve Roy & I have a duo, Steve & Dave Play Dead, which is what we do, and we did it as part of an online fest we are a part of, Dead to the Core, this past weekend. We are the only act that features mandolin (by Steve, I play guitar), but it's a nice little three-song set that hopefully Dead fans will dig. Check out the whole thing if you like, we are on at 1:05:30. There's also a whole Saturday night show, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMjzNR0IHDw

    Hi David,
Your version of China Cat Sunflower/I know you Rider came up on my youtube options a few days ago. I've been really into this track since then and love the interplay of mando/guitar, the vocals and the general "vibe".

Probably the thing that I love most about the dead's music was their groove, which somehow managed to be funky and laid back at the same time. This performance seems to really capture this which is remarkable, to me at least, for a duo to do.

Anyhow, I was about to share my "discovery" on the mando cafe, but turns out one of the protagonists beat me to it!

    Thanks!

Well done! Good song selection, good feel, playing and singing very enjoyable. Getting that transition from "China Cat" to "Know You Rider" must have taken some doing. And "Black Peter" is one of those songs that keeps showing up, somehow. It was running through my mind a lot while I was moving out of my place last year, cleaning, tossing packing - quite an ordeal. No idea why, it just showed up and stayed, day after day. Maybe it's that easy rolling groove. Good to hear it done so nicely. I don't want to bring anyone down, but tomorrow is the tenth anniversary of my brother Peter's passing, so it's been on my mind again. Oh, and putting the mandolinist's name first in your duo's name is a nice touch. As it should be.
