Default Wayne’s World of Mandolin Channel?

Has anyone taken a look at this yet? I Wayne Benson will be posting all kinds of material on his new YouTube Channel “Wayne’s World of Mandolin Channel“ (NFI). Takes requests for topics. Wondering if anyone has dug around and what their thoughts are.

I’ve had a few lessons with Wayne over the years, and it’s always been a great experience. Wayne’s focus has always been about the mandolin first, meaning he doesn’t emphasize a certain style unless you are specifically asking for that. His background demonstrates mastery of numerous styles (Jazz, Blues, Swing, and, of course, Bluegras). There’s often some theory, which freaked me out at first, but Wayne explains stuff really well and applies it to your own way of understanding. He’s also a good dude and a great teacher. Anyway, my point is, this channel idea is kinda new to me, and I’m not really sure how it all works, but I’m really hoping it can be a good boost to my other study & practice.

Anyone worked with this particular channel yet? Thanks!!

I've looked at a couple of the videos, they very much remind me of some of the lessons I took with him several years ago. I really like his teaching style; the music theory that I got from him has substantially enriched my musical life.

I had always avoided trying to learn theory, but I found in the lessons I took that it isn't rocket science, especially if you take it a small step at a time. Actually, now I find it to be a lot more like basic plumbing: you learn how stuff fits together. You can use it to help you figure out songs you want to learn or parts of songs that are giving you trouble, or breaks you want to learn. Good stuff! You just have to be willing to put in the time to get it in your head and under your fingers.

As lazy as I am, I'm sure I'll find the channel helpful as a reference when I have trouble remembering a concept!

Here's the official into trailer if you're interested in checking it out.
I also highly recommend the Breaking Down the Capo Barrier video for any beginner players out there that struggle with different keys in jams. Great stuff!

Hey Drew, thanks for posting that link. Really appreciate the comments above. Wayne’s videos have seemed great so far (only watched a couple so far.) I think I audio tapped my sessions with Benson. Might go check those out again. I’m sure there tons of stuff that would be good to request from Wayne.....any ideas?

He came in and presented for our JAM program in Tryon, NC, he lives nearby in Boiling Springs, SC. His approach revealed a lot of good information although some of it went over the heads of the kids, but I learned and reaffirmed some my thinking on improvisation approaches and melodic development. He is smart and friendly and had a mandolin with him that cost more than I would pay for a used pickup truck. He knows his stuff for sure.

Wayne has a nice, easy-going way about him, and shares choice mandolin nuggets with the pickers.

I like the video on Dark Modes, which we covered in multiple lessons. The great thing about the video is, you can watch it as much as you need to. I recorded our lessons and have listened to them extensively over the years, but the only drawback to that is I can't see his hands in an audio playback. Still, I wouldn't trade my lessons for anything - the youtube channel is a very nice addition for me.

Wayne just posted a pretty sweet video on the blues scale stuff and he jams on some really cool stuff too with a drum machine beat.
Check out the Stanley mando he is playing too, pretty sweet sound I think.

I had to get a Stanley F5 since Wayne wouldn't sell the A5 back to me like you did.

I took a few one on ones with Wayne, he's a great guy and knows what he's talking about, worth it if you can get them scheduled.
