Sad news. Never met him in person but feel I knew him pretty well through interactions here. A classy guy who will be missed.

Having lost my wife suddenly, in February, I can say, with great certainty, there's a slim line, we tread everyday. When you can, don't skip opportunities for contact. A periodic call, a simple text or email, a personal goodnight or goodbye at the end of even the briefest encounter, can be a simple but very important effort!
I took her to the airport, said "Have fun; I love you!" And never saw her again! What I would give for one more day!
RIP, Phil!

It took me awhile to write this. I am a crotchety old fart and honestly don't get along with many folks. I met Phil at Kaufman Kamp. He was a joy to to play music with. Always with a song list in his pocket and current favorite mandolin. He had finally settled on a Heiden two point, an excellent instrument. I was lucky enough to visit him a few times at his home in Statesville, NC. There I met his wife Katherine , Kat, as lovely a person as he was. Phil had a smile and social grace that typified " good folks". I will continue miss him and the thought of him sitting at Kamp or local jams playing away. Fair winds and easy travels friend. Let the circle be unbroken. R/
I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...
He was a great friend. I've known him for 15 years and spent many happy hours picking, talking and enjoying the comradery and joy that comes with true friendship. Many days in the RV picking with friends and then staying up into the wee hours after everyone left to discuss mandolins, makers, music and life in general. He was cheerful always and willing to share and lend a hand to any task or idea. I'm glad I got to see him a couple of times this year. I went to his home last spring and we picked and went out for lunch. Keith Yoder and I then went again a couple of months later and just did a little picking. He was noticeably weaker but still in good spirits and positive. He gave us some things he had collected, picks, strings etc. It was hard to accept them knowing he was giving away his collection of stuff. Finally last month he wrote and asked me to accept a strap that he made himself and told the story of how he sourced the material and decided on the design. I have the strap now and will always remember him when I pick up the mando to play. Rest in peace my good friend. You were loved and respected and you will be missed. We will raise a glass in your honor at the next great gathering.
We few, we happy few.
Thanks for sharing John--so very nice.

Phil Goodson was a special human being, one of my all time favorites. He was kind and generous and funny. It was an honor to have known him.
Dang! I didn't know him except through the forum. Seemed a good sort. This estimation has been borne out by those who did.
RIP, Phil.
