Done bought it, along with the cover.
At a whopping 10 lbs., that's fairly heavy for a mandolin case.
At 31 inches long and 10 pounds, a subway handle on the headstock end might be helpful.
I have the older style - length wise, it's the same as a Weber case. And the weight doesn't seem any more than a Weber heavy duty case. What the Northfield has is tons of storage space. Besides all the regular stuff (strings, tuner, picks), am able to stuff a Kindle (with cover) in the accessory compartment.
The idea of an end handle is good. I store mine on the end and sometimes wish for one to make it easier to pick up and move.

The case is pretty universal. It looks like it will fit a right handed and a left handed F style and obviously an A style. Has that Calton vibe going on the interior. Very classic design.
Wow. That's amazing.Besides all the regular stuff (strings, tuner, picks), am able to stuff a Kindle (with cover) in the accessory compartment.

It's not 31" long, that's including latches, the case itself is more like 29" ×12".. I bought one when they first came out and is an excellent case..
I have a 1st gen, and the lid is a little flimsy for being a road case...but it is very nice and has ample storage.

So, 2nd gen Northfield case arrived. The Airloom "Deluxe" case sports a heavier outer shell, akin to Calton-type cases, much improved over the 1st gen case (which I had). The 4 well-placed, spring-loaded latches are also an improvement. The cover is well-fitted, with heavy-duty, quality zipper action. The cover features a zippered outer pocket. The mandolin sits well inside, with excellent neck/cradle support and well-placed padded cushions in the lid underside to gently yet firmly snug the instrument in place. Storage room is more than ample, same as its first cousin.
Heavier than its predecessor? Yes. And that's OK by me. I let the earlier one go to C.J.L., who then passed it on to Herschel Sizemore. This one, I'll keep (sorry, fellas )
I inquired as to a stiffer top and a Northfield reply stated that the only difference was the texture changed to gloss and that the lid is the same stiffness as 1st gen.

That may well be, but the lid (and overall case) feel that much firmer/more substantial, to me.
The case my Northfield Octave Mandolin came in is super sleek. Same green interior as my Airloom Deluxe case, shiny black exterior, and two internal storage spaces. just extremely elegant overall. Oh, and a soft leather handle, which is just as elegant as the rest of the case.
