Default Mando Mafia cd tracks on youtube

I have put the tracks from all three Mando Mafia cds on youtube, in three separate playlists, so you can listen all the way through if you want.

‘Mando Liniment’ can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNXG...oF9PqXsLQYzTK8

‘Get up the Cool’ can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0P7...suwPqLum55gN2O

‘Get Away’ can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFs0...HPaAZlwOHPA2S6

    Enjoy!

    Nice playing!

I guess "mafia" covers a lot of musical territory, it seems....I hear a lot of American rootsy style and other things, but "Maria", "Santa Maria Polka", are more Italianate. Good stuff.

Thanks, Charley! I'll try and remember to pack a copy of Get Away next time I go to a festival you might be at...if that ever happens, that is!

Thanks, David..glad you liked it. Actually 'Maria' is a Puerto Rican cuatro tune, and I'm pretty sure Santa Maria Polka is a Gu-Achi fiddle tune from the Tohono O'odham Native American tribe in the US southwest and Mexico. If you're not familiar, their tunes are well worth checking out!

A blast from the past, I had to get my mando and play along with Ryestraw. Haven't done that in 15 or so years. What fun, thanks.

Thanks for posting these, Pete, they're wonderful. I especially like Josefin's Waltz. What a pretty melody, and so well played!

Thanks, Bob. If you like Josefin's Waltz, check out the band that came up with the tune, here accompanied by Mike Marshall and Chris Thile:

Well duh, I should have read our own liner notes..Santa Maria Polka is Italian after all! Sorry for steering you wrong, David, but, hey those Gu-Achi fiddle tunes are still cool, and still worth exploring, IMHO.
Here’s one we do play, though we never recorded it:

It's the same "family" of styles!

I do recognize Italian based styles, though

It's still good playing from you and your band.

Thanks! I used to hear you guys at Paul R's house when I'd come to Harrisonburg for parties in the 90's. I moved to California this year and left behind my copies of "take 2" and the first self titled cassette. Never heard the studio version of Yellow Barber/ Brain Damage. Very nice!

I've listened to these YouTube videos a bunch since I found out about them, and stumbled on a site that has a bunch of sound files you can listen to/download from Kelly Purdue, an original founding member who sadly passed away in 2005.

Kelly was a really nice guy and an incredible musician. He spent about a half hour showing me some "stuff" at a party when I showed up with a (kind of crappy) gibson K1.

I must have listened to those tracks 1000 times back in the day. Thanks for posting them.

Does anyone have a transcription for "Get Up In The Cool?"

Thanks, Rickshaw. I still play with Paul R!...we have a Cajun band called Bayou Faux Pas which was fairly active till the pandemic hit.
I have the tracks from Take Two and the first self titled cassette in digital form and hope to put them up on youtube in the near future...I will put a post on the Cafe when I do, so you’ll be able to relive your youth a bit!

You’re welcome, J. We learned and played Get up in the cool by ear, so don’t have a transcription, but I imagine a version of it is in the Milliner/Koken Fiddle Tune book...that’s quite a comprehensive work.

Kelly was such a great guy. When I lived in NC it was close to Virginia and I got to see Mando Mafia often,, Just the best. Festival tapes from early 1980s are still around here. Doug In Vermont

Those of us from the band who are still here miss Kelly, and Vaughan, who also passed - last year - so much. We had so many hugely fun times together. Did we ever meet, Doug? If you have a way of copying those tapes, I’d love to hear them!
