I've recently been listening to this fantastic Grisman album of old tunes with an all star lineup. David Grisman - 'Home is Where the Heart is' (1988)
For those that may know, which mandolin is Grisman playing on this recording? This was released a year before he acquired Crusher (1922 Gibson F5). To my knowledge, he played his Monteleone Grand Artist on most of the 80's stuff, but darned if this doesn't sound more like an old Gibson than a Monteleone to my untrained ear. Could be his Fern (1925 Gibson), I suppose. And it could be that he used more than one instrument on this album, as he is wont to do. Anyone know for certain?
Here's sample, for reference.
