Default Fingering by Mandolin player for new tenor guitar

Have a new Ibanez AVT-1 with 23'' scale. I see that second position (index on second fret) and pinky playing the fifth is the advised fingering). I have played the mandolin and find mandolin fingering easier at this point (first finger plays frets one and two, second plays frets three and four and third plays fifth fret) even though I have to slide my small hand on the neck. Is the old way ill advised so that I should work on the second position? Thanks in advance.

I think you should just carry on as you are, you may find that over time you will naturally start to use all your fingers In a different way.
I know several superb tenor guitar players who prefer mando fingering.

I made the switch to "chromatic" one fret one finger fingering. It took a bit of doing, but becomes automatic after a while. And... unlike what i thought, it does not make going back to the mandolin any harder or confusing.
A talent for trivializin' the momentous and complicatin' the obvious.
