    Default Little Sadie

A year or so back I posted a video of Little Sadie played on guitar. The version I’ve played for years is based on Doc Watson’s chord progression, and licks, though of course it’s my own amateur rendering since I can’t play like Doc (heh).

Anyway, when I first picked up a mandolin, I began trying to get my version onto it. This morning I decided to record a slow version showing some of the basic stuff I do with it, just in case maybe some other amateur newbie might be interested in using any of it. So here’s that - along with the full guitar version I did a while back. There’s a text-based tab for the mandolin here at the cafe tab library, I think I added it back when I first got active here.

Edit: Sorry, I just checked, seems I never added TAB here for this.

Good job, Mark. I've always liked that tune since first hearing it on one of Doc's LP's. You render it nicely.

Good job Mark ! Enjoyed it !
My two favorite pastimes are drinking wine and playing the mandolin but most of my friends would rather hear me drink wine! Adapted from quote by Mark Twain------supposedly !

I enjoyed that! Tried to play this with a band a few years back and that 2 4 measure always challenged us. Nice JJW shirt, too!

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

Peter, I have problems playing crooked tunes in ensemble settings, too, especially jam settings. I do a lot of solo performances with tunes like this, and also have a few buddies who can accompany when we’re together. The mandolin stuff I posted above is what I do solo mandolin & vocals, just faster. In an ensemble it would have to be mostly chopping.
