Default Oval Hole Heaven at Greg Boyd’s

Talk about a nice selection of ovals! I wonder if someone liquidated an F4 collection?

‘24 Gibson, Brentrup, Gilchrist, Sawchyn, and an oval Monteleone Baby Grand!

That Brentrup is calling my name.....

For the size of his store. He has always had a great selection of instruments to choose from. Ive dealt with Greg lots in the past. Just a really good person.

Not one of the Ovals that has my attention, although they are all very nice.

    I'm drooling over this one!

I have all the oval I need to. The Waterloo is a lot of mandolin, especially for a flattop. And Lawrence Nyberg is building me another flattop mando. But I've never owned an F4.....

NFI there is a beautiful Pomeroy F-4 at AMW here in Pittsburgh. It’s definitely a different animal than the old Gibson oval holes I’m used to playing. Those Austin luthiers really seem to know their stuff.

That Sawchyn seems to be the deal here.

Reid, not seeing the Pomeroy listed on the AMW website.

I live about 2 miles from Greg's shop, but he's closed for walk-ins. I'm dying to play those mandolins, and he also has two early 60's Epiphone Texans that I'd like to try.

I had a Sawchyn O2-C exactly like the one at Greg's, except blonde instead of sunburst -- Peter custom made it for me, but I sold it recently to a close friend locally. Beautiful instrument -- impeccable fit and finish and lovely tone. I kinda miss it!!

It’s one of those instruments that hasn’t made the site yet, but it’s there. Perks of living close to a great shop I guess. They have this gorgeous Collings “Blue Spruce” topped 00 that I got to see a few weeks before it was posted online. Kind of surprised it hasn’t sold yet.

Speaking of Sawchyn, anyone ever play one the Hobo’s? I’m curious about the sounds of a flattop f-hole mandolin.

Interesting, he has a Doc's banjo also. Wondering if this is someone's collection that is being put up for sale.

I'm thrilled to know about this shop, as my son moved to Missoula last year! He played violin from 2nd thru 10th grade. I'm hoping he'll check out the Missoula music scene. Anyway, can't wait to visit him next year and check out Greg's shop.
