Default Gibson Master Model F5 @ the Mandolin store

Aside from the player obviously being good I think this mandolin sounds spectacular. I have no financial interest whatsoever, just wanted to share what seems to be a stellar mandolin. Dave Harvey and the rest of the shop workers are really doing a beautiful job with these Master Models.

Wow. It is comforting to see and hear someone with a flyaway pinkie like mine play that well. The problem is that I can no longer blame my pinkie for my lack of talent.

Not sure whether he’s trying to impress people with the mandolin or his playing!

They are both equally impressive, huh?

I've been wondering how this type of video would resonate with a total beginner? Also, would a beginner be looking for this type of mandolin or demonstration?

For that kind of money I'd place an order for a new Gilchrist F5!

FYI, the F5 James is playing in that video is not the one pictured on the MS website (telling from the different flower pots).

Yes, his playing is impressive but he should drink a few less coffees and intersperse his rapid fire notes with some slower sustained ones so we can truly hear what the mandolin sounds like. I really couldn’t tell from the video.

I agree with Jim & Bill. Too often the demonstrators are playing rapid fiddle tune single notes with a few chop chords. It's pretty one dimensional. Yes, some rapid lines are fine. Then some very slow single notes with space in between, to hear them ring. Not just chop chords, but different voiced chords chords up & down the neck, a few Jazz-style progressions. Some tremolo etc... I want to hear the Mandolin, not the demonstrator showing off.

I think the new MM sounds great. And James is a terrific player.

I noticed that was not the same mandolin in the video (because of the grain pattern on the back) too Hendrik.
Not saying there is any deliberate deception but I don't see much point in showing off that fancy picking on any instrument other than the one for sale.
