Default Modern case options for teens Gibson A models

Apologies, I'm sure this topic has been covered before - but after multiple searches using different combinations of keywords, have come up empty.
I recently acquired a simple 1916 model A. Nothing pretty, just a really good player. The period case that came with it is so beat that I dare not venture too far from home with it and I would like to find a good modern case solution suitable for the everyday to-and-fro plus the occasional transatlantic flight.
Thanks 1,000,000 in advance for y'all's insight.

I have found the only modern cases that fit, unless you want to order a Calton or remove the accessory compartment from a case, are the TKL Arch-top A-5 cases. I have a 1917 A-1.

+1 on the TKL arch top case. I recently acquired a teens A-4 and the TKL is a very good fit.

That's good news! (plus a shop over in NJ seems to have one ... rather not do online shopping if it can be helped)

This Road Runner was recommended when I was doing the same search - https://www.guitarcenter.com/Road-Ru...ndolin-Case.gc

Have used it for both oval hole and F hole A styles with short necks.

The TKL works great. An excellent case all around.

I bought a HISCOX LITEFLITE "PRO II" from Elderly for my 1917 A4. Fits very well with lots of room for auxiliary stuff. I haven't traveled with it yet but it seems study.

I have TKL arched for three of my best mandolins. They do the trick. I do have case covers for traveling for at least two of them. Of course, I am not doing too much of that lately.

I have my '17 A1 in a Guardian Case I bought off of ebay for $50.00 including shipping. Not pretty and a bit longer than the mandolin but then that is where I have the Oasis Humidifier. I would like to have an original case but the Guardian has been good enough.
I am sure that there are better cases especially if there is a transatlantic flight but then I wouldn't want to check my '17 Gibson and hope for the best.

I have my 1913 A in the lightweight gator. The fit and finish of the case leaves a little to be desired, but the fit of the instrument is stellar!

My 1916 A1 sits nicely in an Eastman fiberglass case...the f style.

I was unfamiliar with this SKB case until I received a mandolin packed in it. Good, well-made, solid, lightweight case.

I had one of these Access Stage 3 rectangular cases that fit old Gibson A's really well. Well made nice case and not too heavy, though rectangular cases aren't everyone's cup of tea:

I plunked down for one of those for my old Gallagher G-50. Excellent case for a dreadnought.

I bought a TKL 8851 for my 1916 Gibson A. The fit is perfect as those chiming in above are saying. Good luck and enjoy your new/old Gibson. https://www.tkl.com/products/21322-t...-mandolin-case

I got one of these and it fits the body wonderfully and is more protective I think than the TKL. Now, the disclaimer - you have either remove or move the neck box for your mandolin to fit (due to the short neck) but that is ok with me because I simply removed most of the box, leaving some for neck support, and that gives me more room for a zipper bag with accessories in it. Great very strong case.

Nice, that could be interesting - yet I'm not crazy about having to relocate or remove the accessory compartment.

I also got a Superior fiberglass case for my 1919 A3, in white, to match my whiteface Gibson. I had to push the front neck support down a little to make it fit, but that turned out to be pretty easy and like Liestman says, it’s a good fit. They do need to outgas a bit when you first get them.

Adjust the box? Outgas? No thanks. I find the TKL very protective. How do you know the Superior is more so? If I needed more protection than that I think I’d go for a Calton Or similar cases in that price range. Besides the Superior is out of stock at this moment.

I bought an A Style case on sale from Glarry to see if my Flatiron pancake would fit. I tried the case with another A style I own and my 1917 Gibson A. The case fit the body of the Gibson almost perfectly. Due to the chunky V-neck of the Gibson, I did have to pull the accessory box out and cut about 3/8” off both blocks and re-install to lower the neck into the case. There is very little pressure on the strings or bridge, at least the lining isn’t becoming excessively indented. The mandolin fits snug and comes out in tune. I don’t play this mandolin much, but I’m comfortable with storing it in this particular case.

Question Re: Modern case options for teens Gibson A models

    # 12 confirms my suspicion, that since the new Eastman Fiberglass cases apparently fit f4 & F5,
With their elongated headstock clearance bulge, they will also fit A styles ala 4&5..

(I like my A5 only Eastman Fiberglass case, Esp Back Pack carry option, & dry in the rain edge gaskets ..

I did need to adjust the box. It took all of 5 minutes. I did not need to let the case outgas. It did not smell when I got it. On protection, I just presume that a well made archtop fiberglass case is going to be more protective than a TKL (of which I have owned several and they are quite good). The Superior is likely to be more rain proof, if that is a concern, due to the seals being rubber. To me, the Superior and TKL being the same price range, I will take the Superior but I would certainly not gripe about the TKL either. I don't need the protection, weight or protection of a Calton. To each his own.

I was lucky to buy three Small Dog case covers while they were still being made so use them to extra protection. I don’t think I will ever have to walk in rain for extended time certainly no further than from my house to my car. Whatever works of course is fine.

Regarding the TKL cases, are you all recommending the TKL 8851 Archtop A style or the TKL 8853 Archtop A-5 style for a teens A?
