Thread: National Polychrome Neck removal question.

  1. #1

Default National Polychrome Neck removal question.

    Hi there,
I'm wondering if anyone has popped the neck off a National polychrome mando? I've got one here, and it's in dire need of a reset (the neck is still straight), but the thing is, after removing the requisite screws from the fingerboard, rim and tailpiece, I can't get it to budge? It looks like there 'may' be some glue inside where the neck comes through, but it could also be solder, hard to tell. Anyway, have I missed something in preparing for the removal? It's really stuck in there!
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Hello SteveL,

Do you think you might share some photos with us?

I have no expertise in this, but is this model similar to the
    National Triolian model?

Do I interpret correctly that you have removed the finger
board from the neck and removed the hidden sheet metal
screws that hold the neck to the body?
    Thanks,

    Hello SteveL,

Thank you for the photos. I see you removed the sheet metal screws.

I think those round pads are glued to the body. Did you pull the nails
that hold that stack in place? I wonder if they were also glued going
    up to make assembly easier.
    Thanks,

Last year, I called National Resophonic for some technical assistance. They were friendly and helpful.
    I was pleasantly surprised.

The last time I called Martin for information, they were surly and evasive.

And some years back, when I was doing repairs at a shop that was a Gibson authorized dealer and repair center, we couldn't even get Gibson to send us a replacement guitar bridge.

The two little towers under the neck should be removed, they usually have a nail in them and are a pain. They keep the neck tight and should help you remove it. Looks like you have done everything else.
