Favorite Holiday Music Thread
The scrolling alert reveals some terrific recordings that span genres, time and space. This one is terrific, with an eclectic array of songs and grooves. Sleigh Ride, in particular, is very exciting. Fred Carpenter very beautifully states the melody, then solos are taken by Richard Kriehn (mandolin), NME Conductor Paul Zonn (clarinet) and Aubrey Haynie (mandolin). The mando solos so captivated and excited me back then (still do...) that I had the late John McGann transcribe them. He did a splendid job, capturing the nuances and stylistic moves of these two cats.
