Default New Superior CD1521 Mandolin case Strong Chemical Smell

Just opened my brand new Superior CD1521 Mandolin case and it has a very strong chemical smell. My Golden Gate Banjo case, 3 months old, has the same strong Chemical smell. I bought a Golden Gate 1521 mandolin case a couple of years ago that does not have this smell.

Any ideas on how to eliminate this strong chemical smell?
...I have not played my Banjo in about three months. Just opened the case to check it and the chemical smell is not as bad...but still the strong chemical smell is there. Any ideas?

Can you leave if open and let it air out somewhere warm with low humidity? Probably adhesive still needs to completely cure and is off gassing.

Good call. Some adhesives give off a formaldehyde smell. Open air should take care of it.

You are smelling the chemicals used in the manufacturing process, most likely adhesives and dyes. Just like a new car smell, it will dissipate over time, especially if you leave the case open with air flowing through the room. If you want to speed things up, you can sprinkle a box or two of baking soda inside the case and vacuum it out later. Getting every last speck of baking soda out is a bit of a chore, so you might want to use that as your last resort.
A quarter tone flat and a half a beat behind.

    Thank you.
After a day with the case open the smell is almost gone. I’m going to sprinkle some baking soda in the case now.
Tomorrow morning I believe all of the smell should be gone.

Oh, good to hear! I had a guitar case that had the same smell. Like mentioned above, I left it out and it was fine after a couple days.

I received a new Calton case in the mail today and it has that same strong stank.

I got a Calton for my tenor banjo last year and didn't experience any smell with it thankfully, but did have a case that came with my Collings MT-O back in the day that absolutely reeked of glue - it was so bad it made me nauseous! Took about a year for that smell to fade, did the baking soda thing a couple of times to it.

These days when I get a new case it goes into the attic. In Summer it takes about a week to cook the glue stench out of a case. R/
    I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...

Leave it open. When the cat decides to sleep in it, it is fit to use.
