I'm a writer. But a lot of people are working at home these days, so I wondered.

Don't have anything hanging on the walls in the den (aka my office for the last 9 months). But sometimes one does sneak out of the case and sit beside me.

Cary - what's the story on the black oval hole with the flat top? Looks cool.

Eric, I built that flat top. It came out quite well and I enjoy playing it. Use it for travel sometimes and when I visit schools for work. I posted it below, though I recarved the neck afterwards and have also lowered the action.

The Stradolin (while I'm at is) is one I'm restoring. I made a new fretboard for it and am working on the set up. Can't decide if I should repaint the 'binding' or leave it as is. Yet another (pleasant) distraction. I'm very much an amateur so I don't work on expensive instruments.

    Thanks for asking.

One must take breaks to keep in a healthy frame of mind for working, right? I make sure my work desk is far enough away that I at least have to get out of my chair to switch from keyboard to strings.

    How’s that pomeroy?

Actually, I find five or ten minutes of playing to be helpful with writer’s block or general work fatigue.

Brian, the Pomeroy is swell. Just a beautiful instrument. I've only had it a few months.

Yes, a few minutes distraction can be good for work. Better than being on the 'net. (except for the cafe, of course.)

When I was teaching for a living I would reinforce my self with an hour of playing time if I graded X amount of assignments etc., nice way to clear the head and not feel guilty about picking up my mandolin or banjo!

Cary it's good to see that you are still alive and kicking (not to mention working on and playing mandolins). We are trapped in covid isolation, along with the rest of the country. I hope all is as well as it can be for you. Al Meyer

I work at a kitchen table and there's a mandolin on it about 75% of the time.
I like where Charley was going with this and think I will need to keep an Emotional Support Mandolin with me everywhere.

You're all right, it is a great tonic for these times.

Last night it was relatively warm here in Toronto and five of us had a jam around a backyard fire. I wore a mask even though we were outside and distanced, just to be on the safe side. I haven't felt so good as I did after that jam in a long time.

Al Meyer, it's been a long time! Really nice to hear from you. Glad to know things are ok. Going out to BC seems like a dream at the moment.
