Default Build a mandolin in four days

I was over on Rick Turner's page looking at a guitar that I am seriously wanting to own when I bumped into this. I remember reading about this years back.

That looks like fun. Is that only offered in Australia or does he do that in the US, too? Couldn't find any more info on his site.

I can almost guarantee he isn't doing it now but it's been quite a few years since I've seen this. I see his posts on Facebook everyday.

That's very cool - thanks for posting! I love seeing how things go together. It's also doubly cool that they do this in 4 days. I think there was someone doing something similar in the Chicago area for guitar building, that was iirc, a significantly longer term investment.

There are several people who regularly post here that offer mandolin building classes in this flat top style as well as traditional carved instruments.

If your end goal is a carved traditional Gibson style mandolin, the above class may not necessarily be the right place to concentrate your efforts, but.... we could all learn plenty from just the opportunity to hang with Rick in the shop for a few days. He's literally made thousands of great instruments over the years and has a ton of great stories; a living legend in the industry.

He's an excellent historical reference as well.
