Thread: Hugo D'Alton

    Default Hugo D'Alton

As I'm sure many of you know, Hugo D'Alton played on many film sessions, including some for John Barry. I'm currently co-writing a book based on around 40 of Barry's scores and we would love to include a photo of Hugo.

I've done a lot of searching around for photos, but haven't come up with anything of sufficient quality, so I was just wondering if any readers have anything we could borrow, to scan, or if anybody is in touch with his family, who might be able to help.

See if you can find a higher resolution photo of this one with him gazing with love at his Embergher 5bis. I have it in Paul Sparks book, The Classical Mandolin, page 160. Maybe you can reach Sparks—I did not see any photo credits in my edition of the book.

Hugo graced the cover of the 1949 January issue of BMG magazine, a digital copy of which can be found here: https://classic-banjo.ning.com/page/bmg-magazines.

I suppose you found this EP back cover from 1960? For a well known musician, he did seem to be a little photophobic 8-)

Has there been a digitization of his "variety of music" book? If so, anyone know if it's available in the UK ? or elsewhere. It's only about 40 pp. not sure about copyright permission as I don't know when it was published for sure.

Well, I'm not sure if there are any commercially made digital copies, but I have a very good quality digital copy that I suspect is a scan of the print version. I honestly don't remember where I got it...

At the bottom of the pages appears "copyright 1975 Clifford Essex Publications"
Music washes away from the soul the dust of every-day life. Auerbach.

Hugo was featured on the cover of Mandolin World News, Vol. III, issue 2. See attached.

Grisman or Dix Bruce would be the ones to ask about it.
