Again, I say, why are they calling it a mandolin? Four nylon strings, it's a ukulele.

But now I also wonder, why don't you post photos so people can see what you're talking about?

And why don't you give us a little explanation of what issues you have with it? These posts are not self-explanatory.

    Thanks.

Sorry about my posts. I figured one click on the links I provided would make everything instantly obvious. I now promise to explain better.

But back to this instrument, the seller apparently thinks it should be thought of as a mandolin, calling for GDAE tuning. But with four nylon strings, it sure looks like a uke to me.

OK, thanks. That's what I was guessing, but I wasn't sure if I was guessing right. Just wanted to be clear.

And yes - both of these instruments are ukuleles, not mandolins. It's so weird they're being called that. If you want to sell something, say what it is so there's no confusion. And so you're reaching your intended market.

My duo partner bought one of these online, or similar, and was very disappointed.

Cool look, but really thin sound.

Maybe it depends on the size of the wooden box and what it is made of

Quite some time ago, I bought a couple of cigar boxes from a flea market, mostly to store small parts. I had one left over so I decided to make a mandolin out of it. Fully lined with kerfing, induced arch X-braced, bolt on neck. It was a fun project. A bit bright but surprising volume.

Except this one does not have nylon strings.

I was looking for a photo of Luna's cigar box uke, and then remembered there are a couple of short videos from when we brought it on a hike. There's a pond nearby - I think it's an old quarry that has since filled in, and is supposed to be pretty deep. It's called "The Blue Hole," as the depth gives it that appearance. No one swims in it though, because a couple of gators do. You will see them in the clips.

    Huh?

    Well, of all the -

I don't know what to say. I would still call it a uke that someone tried to string mando-style. Maybe? Curiouser and curiouser.
