Thread: Sounds I wish would enter my earholes

Default Sounds I wish would enter my earholes

Here's a thing I really want to hear: Ralph Vaughan Williams' (1872–1958) Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis with a mandolin-family quartetto classico playing the concertino role in beautiful, fluidly singing tremolo. As originally conceived, the string orchestra was divided in support of a conventional string quartet concertino for a fantastic antiphonal stereo effect. Just imagine . . .! But not too long! Please assemble your mandolin quartet, your more conventional (but divided) string orchestra, and deliver.

Music doesn't get any more gorgeous than this piece.

Quite a project. This is tough music.

Thanks, Joe. I am a long-time member. Now to address my limitations: I'll need a mandolin quartet, substantial string orchestra, and large performance space.

A decent conductor too. There's too much going on to do it without one.

I played this in college as a violist in the larger of the two orchestras, it was a great experience. I would be happy to learn any of the violin or viola parts if you ever want to put something together online.

Another sound I wish would enter my earholes is a professional recording—or any recording or performance, for that matter—of Calace's concerto for liuto cantabile, op.150. Still waiting . . .
