Eugene: As it happens, I've got a bunch of Ultem (in both green and black) and I'd be happy to make some custom picks for you. Feel free to PM me if you are interested.

Arrived today: 0.8 mm and 1.00 mm in polyetherimide (Ultem). I'm eager to wrap up the day's day-job labors and give them a spin.

I love'em. This traditional large-Neapolitan profile perfectly serves how I prefer to mandolin. I love the acoustic behavior of this material (as mentioned before, I used to trim, buff, and bevel Clayton's large triangles down to a smaller version by hand). The 1.0-mm Apollo has a smoother "voice," but the 0.8-mm one is brighter and more easily loud. Time will tell how they wear, but I really expect it to be longer lasting than celluloid, which I destroy rather quickly.

Did you buy some of the Galli picks? These look to be a similar size and shape.

Yes, the Galli are patterned after traditional Neapolitan plectra of the "golden era," and the Apollo—in turn—are as well. The Galli are celluloid. I quite like their tone, form, and function, but i destroy them very quickly. I seem to wear celluloid plectra out very quickly or even to pit and chip them deeply enough that I would lose a fair amount of size to file off the damage.
