Very nice! Why is it called "Calico" tuning?
Charley
A bunch of stuff with four strings
Good job !
Really nice, Amanda, great sound with that tuning. I've only used GDGD or AEAE--will have to give Calico tuning a try.
Hint to all trying to justify that second mandolin: you need one for alternate tunings.

Very interesting.
I know one tune , Ragtime Jane, that has the e strings tuned e/c# .

Amanda, you need a fiddle, and some lessons with Judy Hyman (I believe she plays exclusively in this tuning, or for a large part of her repertoire).

"your posts ... very VERY opinionated ...basing your opinion/recommendations ... pot calling ...kettle... black...sarcasm...comment ...unwarranted...unnecessary...."
That's really nice Amanda, love the tonality!
Whoa, THANKS!! You just pushed me into an hour of combing thru Google Maps' sattelite views. Seemingly off topic, but ...
I spent a big chunk of my adult life, even met my wife, as a whitewater kayaker. Most 3-day weekends from the '70s to the '90s would see maniacs heading to West Virgina, the Cheat River being a prime target. Where we actually boated was dependant on the local weather patterns and resulting water levels, as WW streams tend to rise and fall pretty quickly. Thus, we NYC-area folks rarely got to run the (small & way-upstream) 3 forks of the Cheat.
Thanks again! And hey... nicely played!

Our mistakes weren't quite so easy to undo
But by all those roads, my friend, we've travelled down
I'm a better man for just the knowin' of you."

Founds this list as I was reading around about Calico Tuning:
AEAC# = Black Mountain Rag Tuning,
Calico Tuning, or Open A Tuning
FCGD = Cajun Tuning (one whole
step down from GDAE)
GDGB = Open G Tuning
GDGD = Sawmill Tuning
GDAD = "Gee-Dad"
DDAD = Dead Man's Tuning, or Open
D Tuning, or Bonaparte's Retreat Tuning, or "Dee-Dad"
ADAE = Old-Timey D Tuning
AEAE = High Bass, High Counter (orHigh Bass, High Tenor)
similar to Sawmill Tuning
I think one needs a mandolin for each tuning...
