Perhaps numerically, but not ordinally. As I said, I recently reached the #9 spot. You're at #17. That's pretty impressive.

Here's a real milestone, which slipped past me somehow:

The Mandolin Café has more than 55,000 members now.

On a much smaller note, my new computer seems to work just fine. The lemon is going back today. Been a struggle ...

I know I said this, and I meant it, but I'm marking the occasion all the same. But that's all. Except: RIP, Ivan, the friendliest, smartest, most charming banjo player I've ever known. Miss your insights and tales of adventures. Wish we could have met and jammed. See you in the Angel Band (unless I really screw up my side of the deal).

I was hoping to get there in December, so as to make it an even 20 years, but I've been loquacious lately.

    So what do I win?

A certificate of appreciation in consideration of your invaluable contributions to the Café will be forwarded to you forthwith.

In the meanwhile, and forever more, the recognition of your contributions shall be accorded to you by all to whom such matters matter.

As you present us all with 25 posts per year, one hopes they make up in quality what they may lack in quantity. Be ye proud, yet not prideful. And carry on!

I just noticed I am approaching the 6K post mark. I will have to be thoughtful indeed.

Nah, don't be thoughtful. If you post frequently and relentlessly, you increase the chances that one or more of your posts will be insightful and garner bunches of "Thanks" (shotgun vs. rifle approach) -- and that your worse posts will sink in the ocean of your contributions.

    Hope that works for me.

A few of us replying to this thread have been members and posting for 20 years. I guess that’s a milestone, even though my ‘post per year’ is low?

I feel like an old timer in the 20 year membership mark. A milestone for me is seeing the Women with Mandolins thread that I started in 2006 still going with 119 pages. I still check in daily and love Mandolin Cafe!

And as I said to Dave Hicks a few posts ago, who took 20 years to reach the 500 mark - an even lower posting rate than Don's - the hope is to make up in quality what one may lack in quantity. That may apply to many things. In this context, it's worth bearing in mind when posting. I try to act in accordance with this concept myself.

No, just kinda silly. See ya back here in 13 posts when you hit 6,000. As Darryl Wolfe did today.

I recently saw a post from Bertram Henze, who's been posting seldom of late, and he's about to hit 10,000. And many of those posts are quite well-wrought.

I just noticed, the General Mandolin Discussions forum has passed the 700,000 posts mark.

It's where many of us (including me) spend an astounding amount of time discussing an astounding variety of topics. Happy happy joy joy, General! And on this day of days, the centenary of the batch of July 9th 1923 mandolins, one of which was Bill Monroe's barbershop find, #73987, truly the mandolin that changed the world.

Well, it took a while, but I finally got here - Post #15,000. And on September 15th, as well, which is my other duo partner Clementine's birthday. I might just have to celebrate with - no cake, but a coconut pastry and some mango ice cream. I'm gonna miss some of these niceties when I move out of these overheated environs in a couple of weeks. It's been nice, but the time has come.

But first, I have to celebrate this random, fairly inconsequential "accomplishment." I don't know how I managed it, because it's not like I'm all that smart about mandolins, not like some of y'all around here. But I sure do enjoy playing them, and learning about them, and writing songs on and with them, hoping to present the instrument in a good, deserving, representative manner. And I also know a fair amount about a fair amount of things, and I like to think I'm pretty good at sussing out connections between seemingly disparate subjects, events, and ideas. And I do have some fun with word play. At least I try, and try to do it with some humor, at least a nod and a wink.

Think I'll log out now and just let that number sit there for a while.

    Post 1,500:

I joined the Cafe in Nov. 2015 when I got back into playing Mandolin as something to keep me busy while at home after our 2nd daughter's birth in October of that year.... little did I know how consumed Id became.... well sort of, as I tend to take Mandolin-breaks in the Sommer when I hike and Backpack in Washington's forests a ton.

It was through here that I first heard about The Mandolin Store's Black Friday contest to win a Weber Yellowstone, which I won!... I still get a bit of shock when I type that out (I actually passed out a little when Dennis called me). I'm forever grateful and still have and play that one, nearly daily.

Thanks to all for the advice, guidance, patience and friendship.

This is my 60th post on my two month Cafe anniversary. That's the milestone I'm going with. Still a long ways to go to catch Zach, let alone journeybear.

I've glanced at this over the years and realized today I've never added any milestones of my own -- and I should have, since my snake turned 100 in 2023! so happy belated birthday to my favorite mandolin!

Wow, 2,000 posts in 4 years. That's quite alot. What do the kids call it now - a yapper - (and that's not supposed to have any negative connotation, they say).

I will say this, I feel like I'm alot more extroverted online than I am in person. Maybe I found my people here

    Happy eclipse day everyone.
