    Default Mandolin Cafe Milestones

As I sit here today, on this palindromic day of 1/23/21, gazing into my computer screen, noticing that this will be my 12,000th post, I reflect upon all that the Mandolin Café has been, done, and meant to me over the last thirteen years. Although I joined in a moment of despair, panic, and sorrrow (my trusty 1970s F-12, which had been through some thirty years of making music, traveling, and searching the inner and outer worlds, had been stolen, and I was doing everything I could think of to try and get her back), my experiences here led me through all kinds of unimagined paths. Onward and upward, ever so. And over the years, I found myself quite taken by the extraordinary wealth, knowledge, and eperiences of the members of this forum.

As time goes on and posts pile up, occasionally milestones appear. And they always do in the middle of a conversation about something to which the marking of this passage is quite irrelevant, where they produce a bit of distraction from that thread's topic. So I thought it would be nice to create a thread devoted to such niceties, where these milestones could be noted without detracting from other threads. Feel free to post your milestones here, perhaps with some reflection upon whatever else may pertain to such an achievement. As some have remarked, these sorts of milestones are random in nature, meaningless outside human perception. The example most often cited is a birthday, which marks a number of times a planet has completed an orbit around its focal point. Pretty random. And yet, we celebrate them, all the same.

So, celebrate and commemorate, in commensurate fashion, what you wish. Even if it ain't no part of nothing.

JB, you certainly find interesting things to discuss!
I was turned on to the site by Bill Halsey after a late night of red wine and interesting conversation! It was the original “Loar picture of the day” thread. I literally binged probably fifty pages the first time I checked in and signed up!

By the way, there's no "é" in MandolinCafe.

Not in the url, no. Nor in any of the literature, as far as I can tell. It exists in the minds of those noodly nerds who prefer to believe in such things, as in the difference between "resume" and "résumé" for example. I admit that I am one.

Thanks, Ranald, but I usually just copy and paste from somewhere else. Because I can't always remember the alt code (Alt + 0233).

I lurk more than I post (my Dad always said that you learn more with your mouth closed...) but I always enjoy seeing what Journeybear is up to.

I just cannot believe that Fatt-dad is not fat. Wow. Mind blown.

Maybe he can change his name to Phatt-dad?

I remarked on that when we met. He's well over 6'. I think I suggested he change his name to tall-dad. I don't remember his response, but you know how it is with nicknames - they choose you, you don't choose them.

The only other member to visit me here is Charles E. I haven't found that photo yet. It was a couple of computers ago ...

Ha ha ha! Yes, that WAS a fun gig, for many reasons.

Note the erudite election of hip headgear, on both of these fashionable fellows.

And congrats on your milestone, Zach. The first of many, I'm sure.
