    Default 6-String Electric Mando

In the Classifieds today, I saw a listing for an acoustic-electric mandolin with single strings for the G and D and double strings for the A and E. It's built by a builder in Poland, Robert Naczas, who has a very stylistic approach to the body design and the finish. I hadn't seen that hybrid of single and double string courses before on a mandolin. It's an interesting idea, although I think that it would work better played electric than acoustic. Not sure, though.

I found a video that he posted last month with great photos and really clear audio. The mando starts around 12 seconds in.

Something carved out of a single piece of ash isn't going to have much volume when played acoustically, even if it does have a tone chamber.
