    Default Today's Tenor Rumour Mill

I just spotted on a facebook thread on the TG page that Ashbury have just started prototyping an oval hole & f hole archtop model of tenor. There will be ones in better woods.. or something....

Anyone care to confirm? Interesting move!

Hi - I'm interested in all things tenor guitar: but could you translate for the uninitiated?: "TG page" = tenor guitar, I suppose? "Ashbury" I assume is a builder??? Do you have a link? Thanks! Michael

There are quite a few tenor guitar pages on Facebook, I am a poster on a couple but I either missed the post or it was on another page I don’t visit.
Ashbury are a commercial company who sell many types of instruments but we like them for their filths tuned instruments https://www.ashburyguitars.com/

    ha ha nice mistype Fox

I have nothing more to share with you sorry - literally that's all I know.

The good news MJBee is; this is mass production as far as tenors go. They are usually made in Vietnam - believe me I know from Phil Davidson that the factory is decent and people aren't treated like crap, so it's all good and the prices obviously take advantage of the costs... which is a debatable one eh.

    Michael,

Ashbury is sold here in the states through Hobgoblin Music: https://www.hobgoblin-usa.com/local/...rets%20strings

Or direct from the UK on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...uitar&_sacat=0

So.... I have actually had a try of this guitar.
I'm really sorry I don't have decent pic (since this damn browser won't let me upload) or sounds, but as it's a prototype... seems unfair on the maker, so just as well

If Ashbury were listening though -
    1. Make neck shallower - it's just way too deep - I couldn't stretch to some chord voicings I'm used to stretching for no prob on 23". This needs fixing.
    2. Finish is a bit 'rustic'. Hopefully resolved in production, or on the rumoured higher spec model - sure hope this wasn't it!
    3. Neck joint wasn't to my taste - looked rushed in terms of how the fretboard overhangs the body

    Sound wise -
Nice. More oomph than my ETG150, but then this is meant to be an acoustic

Finish was quite plain and natural

Despite the gremlins, I do think providing the neck is slimmed down (it's a deep D profile), that they have a banger of a guitar here. Who knows what price it'll be but we're not talking the 2.6k it'll take to get me a new archtop. I expect between 600-1000 depending on finish.

    Let's see what happens...
