Thread: Recording Equipment

    Default Recording Equipment

I'm looking into recording multiple tracks of myself. I'm not concerned about recording video, but that would be fine. Ideally, I would do this with my I-Pad but I don't know what's practical. I appreciate any advice about this including if I could better microphone my I-Pad and what software I might use with it. Or, maybe I need to go a different direction in terms of equipment.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Lots of options, but I have been using Spire software (free!) and just the iPad mic. I have an external mic with a lightning connector if I want slightly better quality. 8 track capability, very few “bells and whistles.” It cannot be beat for the price ($0).

Oh, you can get it from The App Store.

Start with GarageBand. I’m reasonably certain there are adapters that would allow for a usb microphone. If there are adapters, that opens up DI boxes as well.

I recently got an MV88 microphone which works well with the iPad.

I really like Spire after trying a bunch of different things over the years. I used the app with a Blue Yeti for a while and then I got the Spire recorder from izotope that works with your ipad or iphone. Ilike it because it is super easy to use, easy to record multiple tracks and it sounds great. Here's some more info on the unit, https://www.izotope.com/en/products/...re-studio.html

Here's a video I made that I recorded all of the tracks with Spire and recorded video with my computer. I then synced the audio and video which was a giant pain in the ass. https://youtu.be/Cvpl2oOew1U

I second the Izotope Spire. Super easy to use, very intuitive, and great sound quality. It has a sample/bit rate of 48 khz/24-bit. It might be hard to find because it's been sold out for several months due to high demand, according to their website.
