This was 34 minutes well spent and I thought other folks might enjoy it if you haven't seen it already. Great harmonies, great picking by both gentlemen and it was cool to hear Andrew picking a few Bill Monroe tunes.

nice! what brand and model of guitar? thanks
Thanks, Evan - hadn't heard this one.
I can always count on Andrew to expand my library of songs. 'Have a feast here tonight' and 'Love letters tied in blue' will be added to the list.
I do so wish that he and Emily would put together an album (preferably a double) of BG and OT tunes. They really do them justice.
Can't say that the A4 is my favorite of Andrew's instruments, but it still sounds good in his hands.

Heh. "Tubby"... I like that descriptor...
A little tubby-ness is ok. Lends some color to the woody-ness. But for me, that one (and oval's, in general) is too tubby. I like the more focused sound of the f-hole design. It's almost like the instrument has a hard time keeping up with him when they are playing Big Mon.
Still, Andrew is one of those folks who could be whacking a fan belt with a stick and it would probably sound great.

I was diggin the A4. It's different but I don't think worse or better.

For the record, it's a 1921 A2. Ovals are perfect in this kind of duo setting IMHO. Definitely a different tone than the Loar. And he pushes it to the limits on a few tunes. They all sound great in Andrew's hands!

Andrew Marlin single handedly made oval hole mandolins cool again. Love this video.
Any tone Andrew wants is fine with me...I really diggity his playing
Wonderful casual concert! Fun to listen to AND get some ideas for my own playing too!
