Jeez, the seller doesn't know Star Trek from Star Wars ("Vulcan harp from Star Wars" in the ad).

And as Spock said, "After a time you may find that 'having' is not so pleasing a thing as 'wanting'. It is not logical but it is often true." In this case, I don't even have the 'wanting'. YMMV.

No kidding. Anyway, I though Gandalf had one of these in the Harry Potter movies.

The real thing, played by a master, is quite a chick magnet. The Goodwill dealio ... no way of telling.

That was a Romulan Rim Import in the linked ad. Not a Vulcan. Only a Vulcan is good enough!

Saw a T-shirt in a catalog, with a pic of a Dalek from Dr. Who, and the caption, "Oh look, it's that cute R2D2 from Star Trek."

Lotsa inaccurate sci-fi-nerd info around, I guess.

One wouldn't think so, given the general reputation for obsessive attention to detail to a, ah, nerdy degree, among sci-fi fans.

    I'd wear that shirt

JB, I can almost guarantee it's not the nerdy fans making those errors

That shirt is clearly an intentional joke.

One of the better geeky jokes I've heard in awhile, actually.

Lotta those shirts available online, but the artwork on the one jefflester showed is the best.

Sue, maybe your next batch of "pillow catnip bags" can be Vulcan harps.

BTW love the L&H style ones in the classifieds at the moment!

The Vulcan Harp would surely be an odd shape to sew!

I'm going to admit, if the item inspiring this topic had been one of the actual playable ones instead of the numerous non-working ones, I might have made a move on it....

Who wouldn't? But showing up at shopgoodwill for $100 seems unlikely. I'd think eBay with an opening bid of $75,000 or so ...

It may play like a simple acoustic lyre-harp but I'm sure it is not the electronic organ plus other stuff sound of the original TV series instrument - which did not make any sound itself as it was a prop.

Like Picard's whistle. Folks went nuts trying to figure out what brand tinwhistle was used - but it turned out to be a non-playing prop made of metal tubing with decorative cord trim.

The actual "instrument" from the series was a low-tech prop (however snazzy) coupled with high-tech sounds produced in post. Recreating that with a low-tech instrument by itself is well-nigh impossible.

That does not mean I'm not curious to hear what this sounds like. My guess is it is more of a wall-hanging than an instrument. In that respect, rather like these:

As I said, wall hangings! Utterly unplayable. From a luthiery standpoint, just a litany of irregularities. But as display items ... amusing.

Point being, similarly, I'd guess this Vulcan harp was built for looks, not playing. Sight, not sound.
