...here's your opportunity to get a Polk-A-Lay-Lee of your own

Of course, it's not quite as funky as his, not being so brightly colored and all

Sorry for my ignorance—who is Mr. Hopkins?

I guess I was remembering incorrectly. He posted a video of one, but it's not his.

Oh good. That's what I'd been hoping. Because my other thought was Sir Anthony, which could have gotten pretty weird pretty quickly. Like if fava beans were involved somehow ... Oh sure, that was just a character he'd played, I know. Still ... somehow ... one wonders ...

Hey, who's talkin' about me?
For anyone who decides a Polk-A-Lay-Lee might be of interest, let me state that [1] it's four feet long, [b] it's lovingly constructed of plywood and plastic (one-piece plastic fingerboard, frets and all), [iii] therefore, it sounds really "plinky," and [D] you'll never find a case for it (built my own).
Plus, the paddle-shaped plastic friction pegs aren't too reliable at keeping it in tune, and are quite fragile. You can read about my odyssey in pursuit of a Polk-A-Lay-Lee peg in this thread.
The one a ShopGoodwill is currently listing for about $70. I paid $150 for mine on eBay. I'd say "go for it," but only if you're really into instrumental oddities.

Oh, that Mr. Hopkins! The other advantage of the surf-a-lele is that you can stick its headstock in the sand when you dive into the ocean.
