If you buy the livestreams, can you watch them later? I'll be travelling on the next one, and didn't catch the 1st one unfortunately.

I've heard this song many times from the original recoding in 2000 and it was always one I skipped past or toned out. Just seemed sappy to me. This performance really grabbed me. I was comparing it to the original and it is amazing how much more depth and emotion comes through 20 years later. I'm about the same age as Chris, and assume the rest of the band, and there is new meaning to a song like this when you hit 40 and think about your parents, your kids, and the rest of your life. I think that comes through in this performance. I also didn't realize Tim O'Brien was a co-writer on it. Thanks for sharing.

That NC record was one of the things that got me into acoustic music. Even with Thile’s amazing playing, the mandolin parts didn’t really grab me then (that took a few more years) but I just loved the songs and the harmonies. There is an innocence and purity on that record that seems unique to that project and that moment in time.

Thanks for posting this video; I really enjoyed it.

I answered my own question! When you go to purchase tickets, the fine print states that replay will be available for both nights until 3/14/21. So you can watch the show from 2/21 now if you purchase tickets to it. NFI, just happy to see them playing!

That's a spectacular recording by the way. The instruments all sound great, the space sounds natural and lovely, and the subtle subtle stereo field seems just right - at least to me. I think that's a Neumann USM 69, a stereo mic that I think I first encountered at WNYC's live music production. Anyway, I like everything about this video.

Good to see you here Marty. Cafe is awesome , lots to explore and learn, many
top shelf players/builders willing to help. be sure to catch "mandolin mondays" every monday(and for sure check out David Benedicts offerings on youtube).

Saw you mentioned a delivery from TMS tonight on the AGF. TMS is a great place, Dennis and James run a safe ship-lots of candy at that store. i keep a weekly check on the used items. and the classifieds here are stellar as well.

mandolins are very addictive, just a heads up. you'll know you've been bit when you list some of those excellent guitars for sale-lol

anybody notice that oval hole octave(i assume octave, looks pretty long scale though) in the background on the video?

see a slight edge of what might be another mandolin family member there also.

    wonder who those belong too

my wife and i took a trip to nashvegas when NC did a return in 2014(i think it was 14). they did a show at the Ryman Auditorium. it was pretty unreal. they had not played together for years, but man they were hard driving and dead on with the endings. amazing artists, all three of them.

They belong to Chris, he's played them both for years. The Flatiron OM/zouk he uses for Smoothie Song. The reddish one is a Lawrence Smart mandola he uses for... ah I forget what he uses it for.

If/when I go back and re-watch, maybe I can do that.

I will say that one unique feature is that they decided to play all of the songs off of their first, self-titled, album. They spread those songs over their 2 sets, but that was kinda neat. I think the album is 21 years old now. Last night they played The Fox, Hand Song, Pastures New, and I believe Reasons Why and Cukoo's Nest, from that first album. I may be getting the 2 sets mixed up a little.

My wife and I throughly enjoyed it.

I didn't see the stream, but is it not the Lawrence Smart mandola I mentioned earlier in this thread?
