    Default TablEdit is back!

Mandozine was hosting a wonderful collection of TablEdit files for mandolin, but as you are probably aware it has not been reliable lately. The site went offline at the beginning of 2019, was restored by the summer of 2019. By Fall, it was offline again. I don’t know what happened in 2020, but I recently saw a message in the Mandolin Café Forum that Mandozine was offline. When it didn’t look like Mandozine was coming back this time, I reached out to Scott at Mandolin Café about hosting the TablEdit files. I had all the files and the code for the search site, since I was the author. Over the past couple of weeks, I recreated the search interface here on Mandolin Cafe:

    https://www.mandolincafe.com/te/

Today, I found that Mandozine is back online -- again. But the last update to the TablEdit files was one I had made in June, 2019. It’s nice that it is back online, but it is back in an unmaintained state. That’s like having a Corvette in the garage, but no keys to drive it. I talked with Scott and we are going to move forward with the release of the new TablEdit platform.

The new version contains updated files and new contents (not on the old site). I will also be adding more files, as time allows. If you have TablEdit transcription you have created (nothing from a published source), please send them. Let’s bring the TablEdit site back to its full glory. Again, that URL is:

My thanks to Larry for the work he's done over the years maintaining this remarkable resource and for his exceptional programming skills in creating this. Dan set up access for this on the server a couple of weeks ago and Larry had the database and programming tools up and fully functioning, including the critical administrative front end, with a minimal amount of effort. I think that's more a reflection of Larry's database and programming skills than our server, though we have a very exceptional dedicated server and administrator, Dan Beimborn, and no sharing with other commercial sites, so we don't have hosts installing versions of programming tools that don't match our needs. The rest of that time was my meddling in the look and feel a bit so it took on some of the Cafe's characteristics a bit more.

Possibly later today I'll make this more official and change the links in all of the navigation from the Cafe's modest TablEdit library to the link Larry already provided above. Over time, if we can merge the two databases, all the better. In addition to that 700+ in the Cafe's I know there are a lot more that haven't officially been added so this thing is likely going to get quite a bit larger. I've suspected some of those versions in the Cafe's library came from Larry's files but never tried to find out for sure.

Larry already provided the link, but here it is again.

Update: Larry has been doing a lot of heavy lifting on the database, cleaning up, adding, removing some duplicates, tightening up the content, etc. In the years much of the administrative interface was not functioning or just off-line, submissions continued but there was no way to handle updates which is no longer an issue. Since launch he's added close to 200 new files. That includes around 35 just contributed by Tristan Scroggins a couple of days ago. And, more content is on the way he tells me. Amazing work.

Our thanks to Larry for his efforts!

I pretty much learned to play mandolin by pouring over these tabs as a kid, and it makes me so happy to see the project get new life! Thanks Larry!

Noticed that the Calendar function on the Forum which was never widely used, and for good reason in my opinion in these days of much social much, was kind of a wasted link in the Forum navigation so changed it to the TablEdit page (below, screen shot, link circled in red) to make it a little easier to find.
