Mandolin In Elvis Songs?
This came up in a discussion. Someone said there's mandolin on "Now Or Never." I say no, it's guitar trilled like a mandolin. Which fits, because the song (BTW, his biggest-selling single, I learned) was copped from an Italian song. Then another song was offered, "Indescribably Blue," which I'd never heard before. Same approach, I say, though this time it sounds like a nylon string guitar.
But I wonder whether anyone knows if indeed there is such a song?
I'd be very surprised if there were mandolin on any Elvis song. Delighted, but surprised. Not sure any of those rockabilly cats even knew what a mandolin was - and Elvis covered Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon Of Kentucky." And if they did, they probably would have thought it too square to use - too old-school for them.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller
