    Default Senheiser e609

I have this mic. It's the only one I have at the moment. I also have a couple others but they are across state.

Wanting to use it to play live with a group. Guitar, fiddle, drums etc.

Do I need anything else for this setup? Is this a decent mic choice? Do I maybe need a preamp?

Anyone have experience using this mic or any tips for micing mandolin in a live situation?

It's a dynamic mic so you don't need phantom power for it. It's a mic used on electric guitar cabinets so it may not have high output. You'll need to test it with your PA to see how loud you can get. If your band has drums, you'll probably need a pickup in your mandolin. It will be hard to get enough volume through a microphone.

It has a real tight pattern. Hopefully you mean to pick up just mandolin and not the rest of the band. Stay as close to it as you can. You might practice a bit by yourself to see where the pattern is in relation to your instrument. It can be a real close tolerance thing. If you want to pick up the whole band you'd need it far away.

I was thinking about just bringing my audio interface, as it has a pre amp.

    Will test things out soon

Tell us more about the rest of the signal chain.
Any mic sure needs a mic preamp, but your pa or mixer might have preamps already.
In which setup will you use it?
