    Default Ellis Waitlist

I recently put down a deposit for a custom Ellis F5 Tradition so the waiting begins... Who else is in line with me?

Ivancook, I would love to be, but I am not. Good for you! I know Mr. Ellis built my Pava alongside its namesake, so if that mandolin is any indication, you are going to get a great mandolin and with those Waverly tuners, too. Congratulations on your order.

*raises hand* I am! I put in my order late last year. Can't wait! I went with an Ellis F5 Reserve.

Nice! I'm supposed to be 558. What number did you get?

    546. I'm figuring I'll be at the end of the year, but who knows. Did they tell you anything more definitive?

Not really. Only that it would be about a year, which puts me at early next spring. They also said that I'd get a couple of options for the wood for the back and that they could send a few pics along the way. They hinted that the build wouldn't start for a few months.

    Has yours started yet?

Congratulations ~ I’m sure it’s going to be a great instrument eventually!

I’m wondering why you did a custom order when there are new and used Ellis’ hitting the classifieds almost weekly? Is there some feature you want that isn’t readily available?

    Good luck with the wait.

Yeah, I wanted the tradition but with silver hardware and an ebony pick guard.

I also wanted some custom tweaks, otherwise I would have snatched up some that I've seen on the classifieds lately. So tempting. lol.

When I ordered #484, I was told the wait would be 9 months. Then the pandemic hit and I think that has spread out a lot of their production time. It enabled a few discussions with Tom during the process that I would not have had and he is a font of knowledge and insight into the world of mandolin luthiers. It took almost exactly 12 months, but WELL worth the wait!

Anyone else on the list or recently receive your instrument?

I saw an announcement a while back that Christian had left the shop, so things might be a bit backed up.

I'm not sure. He might have been, but I think the shop is so small everyone helped with everything

Josh was doing finish, at least on the Ellis mandolins,& he was not on site. I understood that Christian did the Pava finishing.

From what I can gather online and from interviews... Christian did the in house finish on some of the Pava mandolins and helped with both Ellis and Pava builds. Josh Luttrell does the finish on all of the Ellis mandolins and some of the Pava mandolins.

And to complicate matters, during the freeze Tom fell and injured his arm. But he’s just about back up to varsity mandomaker form — based on my G2.

Yea, I slipped on the ice and broke my right arm. I won't be doing much for a few more weeks. It has been a difficult year so far, losing Christian and the ice storm, and I thought 2020 was bad

    Tom!

Wishing a speedy and complete recovery. We all need that right arm!

Here's hoping that your power bill was not a sticker as well!
