I know there's a lot of great bluegrass played in Eastern Europe, and this probably is disqualified for abouit five different reasons, but it's interesting how this Monroe tune travelled to Poland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv9dFhii64Q

Good music is just good music! If I was lookin' for straight-ahead bluegrass, as I usually do, it wouldn't satisfy me. If I was just listenin', or lookin', it works! Thanks for sharing this!

Not my idea of Bluegrass but I liked it because they didn't do any of the things I don't like about Bluegrass. I know I'm in the minority and probably the odd man out. I have just never liked the muddled sound of mandolin chop chords when over used throughout a tune.
Maybe some day I will come to appreciate it, I keep trying. There may be hope yet.
That is not to say I do not admire the high level of skill to be heard in Bluegrass. Especially players able to play together in time at warp speed.

I've said this many times before, rhythm mandolin is much more than chopping on the offbeat. Here the player will have to find a place for his instrument in the group where there's already a drum kit with snare and hi-hat. Maybe just lay out, or play countermelodies, fills and riffs.
In the absence of fiddle and banjo I wouldn't call this Bluegrass. More important than labels, however is that there's very little going on behind the singers except rhythm. The musicians are quite competent (I believe the guitar and mandolin solos are worked out), but I would have preferred a different groove, more of a walking 4/4, which is hard to achieve on an electric.
However, what about dicition? I have a feeling that some if their vocal mannerisms are in the way of clear enunciation. I have NO problem following the lyrics on Monroe's recording (although his intonation is off in places) or that of the McGee Brothers. The problem is worse yet on the other video, a medley with fiddle, where I don't knowthe songs at all.
I have preserved only one, 50 year old, recording of myself singing lead on verses with a band and I note that, for lack of a naturally agile singing voice, I have to concentrate so hard on
time and intonation that my pronuciation suffers (it's been long since I gave up singing completely). In this case the problem does not lie there, but possibly in straining to overcome their Polish accent.
Thanks. Obviously, I didn't know that.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
I have been listening to the youtube videos from the group, and also the brother (mandolin, vocal) and sister (vocal, piano) team that are the core of the group. It appears that the siblings perform under the name "Kwiat Jabloni" (Apple Blossom) as a duo and they are very good together. He is using the mandolin is some new and refreshing contexts. I play music with a piano player and bass player and it works well ("We don't need no stinkin' guitar!")
Thanks for that. They seem to be popular in Poland. I wish I understood their lyrics.
Google Translate can be your friend. You just need to find the lyrics either on a website or in the Youtube comments.
BTW, if you follow the sister around on Youtube (Kasia or Katia Sienkiewicz), you will find that she also sings in English with her band named 'Kathy Simon Band'.

There is a female mandolinisit in that band (Karolina Jastrzębska), and if you follow her around on Youtube, you will discover yet another Polish mandolinist named Janusz Tytman.

So now we know the names of three Polish mandolinists:
Jacek Sienkiewicz
Karolina Jastrzębska
Janusz Tytman
Oh how I love Youtube.

Here is an example. I took the name of the song "Wodymidaj" and put into Google Search as "kwiat jabloni Wodymidaj lyrics". Up pops a website with the Polish lyrics. At the bottom is a link "Translate to English". Click on that and up pops a phrase-by-phrase translation.

They are thrown into the world and are thrown into themselves
Wrzuceni są w świat i wrzuceni są w siebie
Everyone under the sky
Wszyscy pod niebem
Will you live like you or somewhere under the fence and alone
Czy będziesz żył tak jak pan lub gdzieś pod płotem i sam
You do not know that
Tego nie wiesz
Will you live in the mountains, or will the walls of the great cities be hidden?
Czy będziesz żył pośród gór, czy może miast wielkich mur zasłoni
Thrown into yourself
Wrzuceni w siebie
How big a fire is the world that has to digest forever
Jak wielki pożar jest świat, co wiecznie trawić się ma
From heaven to earth
Od nieba aż po ziemię
So lead me through the burning forest
Więc przez płonący las przeprowadź mnie
Let great rain fall on me from the sky
Niech z nieba spadnie na mnie wielki deszcz
And lead me through the burning forest
I przez płonący las przeprowadź mnie
Like a great river, save me
Jak wielka rzeka wpłyń, uratuj mnie
And they still get to know this world, they get to know the stars and the earth
I wciąż poznają ten świat, poznają gwiazdy i ziemię
Everyone under the sky
Wszyscy pod niebem
Will you know the world by shedding tears or will you live in harmony with it?
Czy poznasz świat lejąc łzy lub w zgodzie z nim będziesz żyć
It only depends on you
Zależy tylko od Ciebie
Will you tread on the bottom or with your head in the clouds asleep
Czy będziesz stąpać po dnie lub z głową w chmurach we śnie
Thrown into yourself
Wrzuceni w siebie
Although this world is on fire forever, I believe in my heart that I am
Choć wiecznie płonie ten świat to w sercu wierzę, że ja
It won't change anymore
Już się nie zmieni
So lead me through the burning forest
Więc przez płonący las przeprowadź mnie
Let great rain fall on me from the sky
Niech z nieba spadnie na mnie wielki deszcz
And lead me through the burning forest
I przez płonący las przeprowadź mnie
Like a great river, save me
Jak wielka rzeka wpłyń, uratuj mnie
So lead me through the burning forest
Więc przez płonący las przeprowadź mnie
Let great rain fall on me from the sky
Niech z nieba spadnie na mnie wielki deszcz
And lead me through the burning forest
I przez płonący las przeprowadź mnie
Like a great river, save me
Jak wielka rzeka wpłyń, uratuj mnie
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
Give me water, give me water
Wody mi daj, wody mi daj
So lead me through the burning forest

I think I won't be integrating that one into our song lists for gigs--but thanks!
