    Default Gborm? Gbrom?

Well, I guess I just can't keep quiet any longer. In a few weeks, I will receive my third addition to the mandolin stable.

I'm getting a flattop guitar-bodied octave mandolin--with a resonator. It may sound like a fish with feathers, but I think it'll be fun.
Phoebe, my 2021 Collings MT mandolin
Dolly, my 2021 Ibanez M522 mandolin
Louise, my 193x SS Maxwell mandolin
Fiona, My 2021 GSM guitar-bodied octave resonator mandolin
Charlotte, my 2016 Eastman MDO 305 octave mandolin
And Giuliana, my 2002 Hans Schuster 505 violin, Nehenehe, my 2021 Aklot concert ukulele,
Annie, my 2022 Guild M-140 guitar, Joni, my 1963 Harmony 1215 Archtone archtop guitar,
Yoko, my ca. 1963 Yamaha Dynamic No.15 guitar, and Rich, my 1959 husband.

I've got a "Dojo" with a large mandolin body, 5-string banjo neck, and a National-style "biscuit" resonator. Also a 1930's Dobro tenor guitar, spider-bridge resonator, and "one of each" National and Dobro mandolins, with the two resonator types.

What kind of resonator are you getting -- "biscuit" bridge or spider bridge?

I played a GBROM once. The tone was a bit mushy when I played chords, but it got really intense on melody lines. As you'd expect, it had a really strong attack on each note, with lots of resonance in the decay. So, those sweet fiddle tunes came across with quite an attitude! You'll have a lot of fun with that instrument.

    Biscuit, I do believe.

Sounds fun! I have half a CBROM in my bunch of mandokin: a 4-string resonator tenor guitar (single cone, biscuit bridge, guitar-shaped wooden body) tuned in OM tuning GDAE. Good fun, although I don't play it often enough.

Have fun with your new toy!

Is that the one in your 2012 video of "Sinnerman"? I love that instrument and I love that video. I found it very early in my mando life and was very inspired by it.

Yes, Sue, that's the one. Glad you liked that video -- I was aiming for a stripped down version, broadly inspired by the 16 Horsepower cover.

Here's a more recent video from last year of me playing "Soldier's Joy" on the same resonator tenor, just a simple solo runthrough recorded mainly to demonstrate the instrument's tone:

Mandokin. A new word. I am going to use this one a lot. Martin you are moving the language forward!

Although a little googling shows that "mandokin" is a character in World of Warcraft. Well the context will be obvious when the word is used.

Martin, yes, I remember reading that, and I looked at the 16 Horsepower one, too (but I liked yours better )
I enjoyed that "Soldier's Joy" as well. Lovely instrument, visually and aurally

Sheila, I hope your new instrument is just as awesome.

Thank you, Sue. It was damaged in shipping, but I should be receiving the new one soon. Meanwhile, I expect to trade up my mandolin tomorrow.
