Default What do you keep your picks and stuff in?

I always love seeing what pickers use (or repurpose) to keep their bits and pieces in. This tin came from the tobacconist shop my granddad ran when I was a kid. What do you use?

Every instrument has a pick in the strings. I have a leather pouch on my keyring with spare picks in case I come across an instrument. The rest of my bits and pieces live in a zipped case which came with my “old G7” capo. (I say “old” as it’s one of the original ones - I bought it at a guitar show from the person who designed them.)

I keep my picks in an old Altoids tin signed by Tommy Emmanuel. It was all I had in my pocket one night in OKC when I got to meet him after a concert, so he signed it.

Matt, I’m a pipe smoker and like your tobacco tin.

It's one of several As a kid, our house was full of tobacco tins with screws and nails in them. Plus we had glass cases of pipes and vintage lighters, big ceramic tobacco jars and endless ashtrays! All leftovers from the shop my granddad ran. I'm not a smoker but I love all the paraphernalia that comes with it!

I use a small wooden cup. It's deep enough & wide enough that I can easily scoop out a pick but small enough not to take up too much space on my desk.

A Crown Royal bag. It's purple, soft, has a drawstring, and it's purple. Also, being soft, it conforms to the size and shape of whatever else it's put into, like the gap around the headstock in a case. And it's purple, with gold accoutrements. Looks really nice.

But that's for the extras. Usually the pick I'm using lives in the strings. It's either that or my pocket.

I make these out of deer skin, it's nice and soft. The pick is a TF Wegen for size comparison.

I've got one of Doug's boxes I got for Christmas that I keep on my desk. I love it. But for my pocket or purse, I think the one pops1 made is excellent!

I got one of the Northfield Mandolins pick boxes, I love it. I keep the rest in a small mints tin.

For instrument cases, I use a 2" wooden box with a sliding lid made by Heartwood Creations, like this: https://heartwood.com/collections/guitar-picks They will hold 5-6 picks depending on thickness. Mine have Chinese characters on the tops, with English translations inside, like "Tranquility."

Like others here, I have a small flat leather fob on my keyring with a couple of picks in case I am somewhere without one.

I have a larger (4"-ish) covered lacquer box in the sunroom, and another larger Heartwood box (2"x3"x1") in my office/music room, both full of assorted picks.

Yeah, collected lots of picks over the years, although most since I started playing mando. I'm a fingerstyle guitarist, so my picks are always with me. Unless I break a nail.

I have stashes of picks scattered around the house: a couple of little soapstone boxes picked up at garage sales, a couple of little glass bowls that began their life as lab equipment for doing plant anatomy, and a small olive wood bowl that I got as a a gift. For case picks, I like the little boxes from Trader Joe’s that tea mints come in. It keeps all the picks together and not wandering aimlessly around the case.

I also have a cool old rocker that has a built-in drawer for sewing. I repurposed it for music. It’s a good place to sit and watch for friends coming to pick me up. I can play while I wait.

I like the Gravity display case. It might be overkill, but I like the look and easy to locate your picks.Click image for larger version.

In instrument cases, Altoids tin. These also carry spare batteries, nail clipper and in guitar cases extra bridge pins. Next to my desk a Northfield pick tray. Next to the couch a Taylor ceramic pick dish.

The rest of the picks now live in a Ball Standard wax seal jar.

I loved the little Velamints containers. Metal, the top slides back, different designs to keep it straight which picks go with which instrument. Unfortunately, they changed the design of them, and now they have a piece of plastic between the top and bottom that just ruins them for a pick container. Next step was to go to the local antique emporium and buy a couple of old patent medicine tins. These two are just the right size.

I love all these little boxes and tins. I also have a tiny tin that used to hold gramophone needles, but it's really too small to use for picks so it now just lives in the case doing nothing

A friend made me a small cloth pouch with velcro to close it. The fabric is a pink flamingo print. It's a hoot.
