    Default MAS Control

I was showing my wife the eighteen thousand dollar Gilchrist Mandola in the classified, suggesting to her what a great birthday present that would be, to which she replied - "you told me you needed socks".

fmsweeney, all you need to do is increase your medication. I say this with the knowledge that I'm not one to talk with 4 mandos.

Hey, wait, I want that mandola!

MAS is always out of control, that’s one of the diagnostic symptoms
I should be pickin' rather than postin'

On the bright side you’ve started the conditioning process. If she thinks all mandolas are around 18 grand then she won’t think twice when you buy one for 15 or 16. You saved a couple grand, right? A couple grand is a lot of money.

That Gilchrist makes the Hamlett mandola look much more reasonable...to which my wife responded, "Well you blew your birthday surprise so I'll just get something else!"

So...Considering I have 7 guitars as a result of some serious GAS, am I going to end up with a similar number of mandolins? I got my first just a month ago.

    Story to tell.

I took some friends on a day trip to the nearest Cabalas, which was a drive of several hours. (This was before on line purchasing became the norm, and such road trips are something I really miss about the modern world.) Well, we behaved as stereotypes I guess, the men went into Cabalas, while the women went into the various outlet clothing stores that spring up around a Cabalas.

With pier pressure to 'buy something" my friend purchased some socks, high end quality wool boot socks. And he complained the whole drive back about how much they cost, and how many "regular" socks he could by for that price.

A year later he confided in me that those socks were the best GD socks he had ever worn, and that he had since drove back to get another pair.

All I am saying is, while mandolins are great, great socks are great too.

My wife is correct, my news year's resolution which I have styed true to, was to throw away any pair of socks with a hole in them, needless to say the sock drawer is looking pretty sparse these days, but I would go barefoot the rest of the summer in exchange for the Gil dola.

I suffer from MAS. I've had it over 40 years now. My biggest fear in life is when I die my wife will sell my mandolins for the price I told her I paid for them.
