    DADGAD is but one of many tunings, of course.
    I used to do a lot in open D and open G. Both can work very well in Celtic music, albeit with capo shifts sometimes, and I used both on my Highland Mandolin CD.
    Also good for bluesy things. I didn't ever do much with DADGAD.

    Played flat top 6 sting guitars for 4 decades before starting mandolin. The mandolin and Ted's FFCP approach changed my playing style a good bit. I still enjoy open tunings and airy sounding strumming patterns, but generally play more flatpick style with double stops. It also led me to try tenor guitar which has been my main focus since 2014. Not sure how that happened!
