    Anyone know anything about these?

Both signed and dated with what looks like it might be the same signature. One appears to be still in the white. In one of them, the signature and date are on a small wooden plate; I know one builder who used to do that, Rick Felkel of Louisiana, but it doesn't look like his signature.

Last name might be "Allen"... I'd see about finding information from the Telluride (Colorado) Bluegrass Festival from 1994, maybe you can find someone likely mentioned. Or maybe they're a local to Telluride, and you could ring a music store there to see if they have information. Intriguing instruments though!

Somebody knows something: at 5 days out that bidding level indicates some information’s there. The unfinished one could have indicated that it didn’t sound good enough at that point or maybe? The paper label looks like a printed ‘Telluride..’ so perhaps intended to be a brand. My general web search turned up nothing.

What became the RockyGrass Academy started in Telluride in the early 90s. Not sure of the exact date it started but I went to one, maybe in 1994. I remember there was a class where you could build a mandolin kit with Rick Turner and Michael Hornick. They provided kits and students braced them and glued them up. Depending on the speed and woodworking skill of the student, they may have been sprayed with some finish. If they didn't get completely done, students were given instructions on completing them and they were taken home in the white. I think that's what these are--a couple kit mandolins from the Telluride Bluegrass Academy.

Michael Hornick continued this class once the RockyGrass Academy began (and the Telluride Academy discontinued). Every year I attended RockyGrass, there were brand new kit mandolins being played in the campground. Bobby Wintringham from San Juan Mandolins helps with the class along with some other folks who are experienced in building instruments. The instruments sound great. As far as I know, the class continues at the RockyGrass Academy.
