I recently acquired an older (2000) Red Diamond. I upgraded the Gotah tuners w/ Waverly's. As you can see....they barely hang over the edge. Is there a fix? Can I round out the ends or are they only gold plated (would I see silver if I filed them down?). I really wish I didn't have OCD.

Maybe nobody responded because I wasn't clear. This is what I'm thinking about trying:

I should think Stew-Mac could tell you what the base metal is. I doubt that it is gold (or even gold-ish). I have no thoughts on OCD though.

Those aren't Gotoh tuners I believe they are older Grovers and the plate is just smaller. Before you cut up the Waverly tuners consider some other better worm over tuners.

Two things, you can snug up the screw holding on the gear. Also some have a small plastic bearing that can break out and make the tuner loose. They are pretty easy to replace.
I put the OG tuners back on. I'm returning the Waverly's. Thanks folks!

Put some Schaller's on it. They fit and work perfectly.

I did notice while removing the older tuners that both "A" strings and one "E" string were missing a small clear plastic piece. Are these sold anywhere or should I just make my own?
