His use of double stops and chord voiceings in the melodies is amazing.

certainly choro melodies are wonderful, interesting, fun, set in rich jazzlike harmonic forms...anything by Jacob do Bandolim, Pixinguinha, Ernesto Nazareth, et al.

the idiom is a precursor of sorts to bossa nova. Jacob and Jobim used to hang out, in fact. Jacob recorded Jobim's Chega de Saudade, both live and in studio. I really dig the live version, Jacob actually plays jazz on it..

other favorites of mine in this area include Vibracoes, Noites Cariocas, Um a Zero, Estamos ai, the jam favorite Assanhado, and well, all of them actually...

the big jazz guitar guys Montgomery, Pass, Benson, Martino usually offered "Latin" tunes in every set or album...Wes had great originals of that flavor, as does Benson(Mimosa)..Jobim's Once I Loved was a fave...Pass has an entire Brazilian record (Tudo Bem)including a great one by John Pisano called Amanecer. Larry Carlton Rio Samba and other groovalicious numbers

can't forget Dawg! His Latin tinged tunes are many, not only on recordings, also written out in his recently released Book of Dawg series

and of course there's always show tunes and movie tunes from the tunesmiths of the halcyon days...Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Ellington, Ray Noble..One i've been enjoying a lot here lately is Jimmy Van Heusen...sweet melodies, great chords to jam on. Like "Come Fly With Me"...no wonder everybody wants to hear tunes like that, it's a gas!

I played "Breezin" a lot over the years on guitar gigs.

it would make a great mandolin tune. D major...ideal!

I think Dexter's Cheese Cake would play well as a samba.
