Default Found my Loar at a Yard Sale!

April Fool. You had to look, right?
But I did find my little piece of Lloyd Loar history in a paper bag full of old sheet music that I paid buck for. Click image for larger version.

"A beautiful collection of snappy Fox Trots, Waltzes, and Marches" arranged by Lloyd Load for banjo band. Copyright 1928. Six tunes in all. As close to owning a Loar anything as I'll probably ever get.Click image for larger version.

Also Santos Superb Folio for Banjo Band and Mandolin Orchestra. Copyright 1928. Notice various mandolin sizes mentioned on the cover.

We all know about Lloyd Loar the instrument designer, but was he in fact a musician and arranger of note also? I'd love to know more if anyone can add some insight.

Anyone can be an arranger of note. It takes someone like Lloyd Loar to arrange more than one note.

Wouldn't an "arranger of note" be something like one hand clapping? I'm curious.

Would that make John Cage an arranger of no note?

Well I just checked Wikipedia and found out Lloyd was in fact a composer and arranger and was "A well thought of musician on mandolin, viola, and MUSICAL SAW" !
(My emphasis). Here we are all treasure hunters looking for that elusive 1923 F5 when maybe we should be looking for a Disston 28" cross cut signed by Lloyd himself!

Believe it or not, there is a guy who attends jams in Central PA who brings along a crosscut saw and a bow and will solo on it.

Go on YT and search musical saw and Ave Maria. There is a guy that's amazing on the saw!

Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

Thanks Ranald, as always most helpful.
After I had happily watched the information there was a link to a vid entitled, ‘Facial hair for Americans’.
There was a picture of a very dandy young man caressing his tidy moustache.
    (I didn’t watch that one)
