Nice. The first time I heard that song was in 1975 in my apartment up off NE 70th and Halsey when station KINK did their album preview of the first Guy Clark album. I'm sure I have the cassette I made of that preview here someplace. I also own it on vinyl and CD. It was the beginning of a long time admiration for the man.

That's really cool Mike. One of my favorite songs. Been puzzling over the line "...I wouldn't trade a tree..." for a long time. Lyle Lovett does a great version

Guy was a guitar builder and his personal life was well known as well. I always figured he was talking about wood or ganja and I never gave it much thought.

Makes sense Mike, a tree is a significant thing to trade. I knew Guy built guitars and had some mentoring from Michael Heiden

That was really great. Your playing and arrangements fabulous, and you captured the soul of the song. Nice recording too. I'd like to do just one of those things half as well. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Luna Pick - lots of time in my little studio this past year and a steep learning curve re: recording

Have to ask, which of your fine sounding mandolins did you use on the recording, if you don't mind saying.

That was the Heiden F Artist. The other instruments were a 1953 00-18, a 1965 Hofner bass, a Danocaster tele and a scratchy voice

I enjoyed that, Evan. The singing was really fine, as well as the playing. Excellent arrangements and playing on the tunes following as well.

Been listening to a lot of Guy Clark lately. Really nice job of keeping the feeling of the song while making it your own. Jim

Here is a photo of Guy playing a mandola at Carter's, and also a photo of a mandola on his sun porch. Guy's biographer says he played mandola most days.

Really fine playing and singing, Evan. And a fine recording and mix too! I think Guy would approve.
