    Hi

I have an opportunity to pick up a Kent Model 201 Bowlback mandolin. This will be my first Bowlback mandolin and I am quite excited about it. I do realize that this particular brand is not considered high end but it will make an excellent first.
It is in excellent condition. Hardly any marks on it at all. Although it does not have a case it comes with the original box which is in pretty good condition itself. I really don’t think that it was played much and was kept in the box.
I have been having a difficult time researching this instrument. Other than the fact that it more than likely is from sometime in the 60’s I really don’t know much about it.
Can anyone here tell me more about this?

    Thank you. Wayne.

That looks a lot like my first Japanese made bowlback.

These are variations on the Japanese Suzuki models; some are nice playing and sounding, many are overbuilt and somewhat dull sounding. they have a variety of names as they were often stencil instruments.

As long as it is well set up it's fine as a first bowlback mandolin.

I love it, David. So true.

Once you go bowl, you're hooked, no matter how many other types of mandolins you may enjoy playing.
