Question Difficulty finding Elixir Nanoweb coated strings

I like the brightness of 80/20, and I like the Elixir coating. They are not for all mandolins, but they really make my Collings MT sing. I went to buy some more, and I cannot find them anywhere. All of the usual online dealers have an Out Off Stock message. Does anyone know anything about this? I am hoping it is temporary. However, since D'Addario pulled the rug out from under me by ceasing manufacture of EXP77 (also a coated 80/20 string), I am fearing the worst. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The new D'Addario XS strings are coated like Elixirs, although the XS are Phosphor-Bronze rather than 80/20. Seems the XS are spiral-wrapped whereas the Elixirs have an extruded coating. In any case, D'Addario claims the XS are less damped than other coated strings (presumably Elixirs) so it's possible that less-damped PB strings (XS) might be comparable to more-damped 80/20 strings (Elixir)?

Could be worth a try - many users here like the XS set. I recently ordered some but haven't made time to wind them on yet. I know, I should get onto it.

    best of luck!

I contacted Elixir directly, and I got a very nice email in reply. They have cut back operations due to COVID restrictions. I can't blame them for trying to keep their staff healthy. There is no estimate as to when they will start making mandolin strings again. I have one set left, and also a set of EXP77. If Elixirs don't come back soon, I will take Aaron's suggestion and try a set of XS's. I do like the 80/20 sound, though...

That’s unfortunate, those strings were really nice.

Has anyone found these back in stock anywhere? I don't think they have been discontinued.

They appear to be in stock at StringsandByond.com and JustStrings.com unless there's another category of these we could be missing. I saw a reference somewhere that these just became available again but don't recall where.

They are shown at both sites, but you can not actually order on either. Clickable images are there, but the strings don't go to the shopping cart.

Ugh! You are right. That's bizarre usability for any retailer. Most point of purchase systems have a better method to denote something just out of stock.

It's a good time to try the XS I guess. Sure like those nanowebs.

I've found whatever the "Appalachian Moonshine" coating is on the Mapes to be really nice. They last forever for me, and I usually corrode strings quickly. Might check them out.
